Cardboard/Nature Objects (Bill's Project)

The drawing of the coconut is harder to see, I dont think my scanner recognized the areas with light shading

The begining of my cardboard coconut :)

So as I'm getting deeper and deeper into this coconut project I'm starting to get really frustrated, I think it's starting to come along though. I've started to pull apart the cardboard and use the inside for the texture of the coconut, hopefully by doing this I can make the right end a little more pointy then the other side considering my odd shaped coconut.

Today, my table critiqued my coconut, while they all liked where i was going with it, I on the other hand hated it. My group suggested poking holes in the cardboard to create holes like there are on the real coconut and the also suggested ways to help improve the ends. The part they liked most however was how i tore the cardboard apart and used the inside as texture. Even though they seemed to give me all positive feedback, I didn't feel like it was the best I could do. Sooo...I started over with only a week left to finish this thing.

This is the new base for the coconut, my next move is to create long thin strips to glue to the outside, then at the end of these strips I'll mold them to make them look like the ends of my weird coconut.

I'm really hoping this turns out, keep your fingers crossed! :)

Good news, i think its coming along!
Just a little something funny, i was trying to hold the glue together

It's done! BAM:)

During the critic today, people suggested spending more time on the shape would have helped the piece and fixing some of the strips at the end so that they went all the way inside instead of just stopping would have helped it also. I think overall I did okay, it was a tough project and Im glad it's over with. Wonder what's next?

I was a little confused on what to do with similarity and closure, I did my best.

September 1, 2009, Criticising
Today everyone at my table criticized my work, as a group the pointed out my habbits of using mostly big dots. They also noticed that the principal of continuancy was dominant through out my sketches. Along with that, the group said that there wasn't really alot of variety in the sizes of the dots on each sketch itself, they pointed out that most of my sketches had sets of two, and for the most part, all of my sketches were very geometric. The group also decided that my weakest point in this project was the proximity part.
After they started catagorizing the 16 sketches I put in front of them, we realized that we all had a different understanding of the similarity aspect. Thanks to Kathy though we got that straightend out. (As we critized everyones work, it seemed like we all had a different interpretation of the terms though.) After they got it all figured out, the group picked my strongest sketch in each catagory, however they did make a change to the proximity one, but I have to say that I agree with their decision.

At the end of the class, tables were assignned an element of design. My group got color and we had to portray it to the class by using sound only.
